This week in Astrology: Howling at the Moon

Special Eclipse

Friday’s Lunar Eclipse in Cancer has the Full Moon opposing not just the Capricorn Sun, but Mercury, Ceres, Saturn & Pluto as well. Aptly named, this is the Full Wolf Moon, named for wolves howling for food in the winter. This Eclipse calls up issues of our own voice as well as nature calling out to us.

Mercury, coming into exact conjunction with the Sun just hours before the Eclipse, challenges communication & mental processes. Words from others may wound, and you may have difficulty expressing yourself. We’ll all be feeling sensitive. Mind your own tongue & will.

Ceres – the goddess Mother archetype associated with climate change – brings the upheaval of the planet into the mix. And we can’t forget the Earth itself, casting its shadow over the Moon in the war of words & worlds. The Cap/Cancer axis of this eclipse cycle highlights the polarities of father and mother &/or patriarchy and Mother Earth. A trine to Neptune ignites our imagination to envision what can be. And Uranus, retrograde in Taurus since August, turns direct, inspiring innovative thinking about our values and valuables and that which we assign value to, as well as how we utilize and protect our resources (financial & earthly).

Saturn & Pluto oppose the Eclipse just two days before their own long-awaited conjunction in the midst of the same Capricorn stellium cluster, speaking to issues of authority and discipline. Their alignment confronts those things that constrain, define & destroy us, and asks us to recognize and accept what IS so that we can assess and act on that which needs to change. Both planets are significant this year as they come in & out of aspect with Jupiter, leading us toward new horizons.
