Dr. amina wadud is a retired professor of Islamic Studies and Visiting Researcher at the Starr King School for the Ministry, Berkeley California. She taught Islam or held postings at universities in the United States, Australia, Malaysia, and currently in Indonesia.  Her background includes a Masters and PhD from University of Michigan and advanced Arabic Studies from the American University in Cairo. After retirement she devotes her time to global advocacy as a consultant and independent researcher on Islam and social justice. Dr. wadud is considered one of the foremother Islamic Feminism through inclusive textual analysis from the perspective of the Divine Feminine.  Author of the ground breaking Qur’an and Woman: Rereading the Sacred Text from a Woman’s perspective, translated into over a dozen language and of Inside the Gender Jihad: Women’s Reform in Islam.  She describes herself as a Black Senior non-binary America Muslim woman living in South East Asia.
