I’m New to Kundalini Yoga, Where Do I Start?

Kundalini Yoga is often referred to as the Yoga of Awareness. It includes dynamic and powerful practices using breath, mantra, and movement that harness the mental, physical, and spiritual energies of your body. The best part about it? You can reap the benefits in as little as 3 minutes per day.

Kundalini refers to energy, and as a form of yoga, involves practices that are as practical as they are dynamic. Practicing regularly can quickly reduce stress, improve mental clarity, elevate your mood and increase overall vitality. Everything in Kundalini Yoga is specific and intentional to make physical changes in the body and nervous system for prosperity and wellbeing.

Kundalini Energy

The basic idea of what we are trying to access in Kundalini Yoga is to access Kundalini--this infinite source of energy that lives within each of us. If we can learn to access and use our energy in a particular way, we can tap into our own unlimited  power, vitality and healing potential. We do this through riyas - yoga sets -  intentional movements that create specific effects in the body.  Kundalini energy starts at the base of the spine and moves up as in a spiral. 

Through meditation, we learn to move and work with this energy to its greatest capacity. 

Tuning In

We begin every session with what we call “tuning in.” We chant the mantra “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo” to attune ourselves to Universal energy, followed by “Aad Guray Namay” to energetically contain and protect our practice. No matter what, taking this time to plug into the vibrational sensations of the mantras will leave you feeling great.

Seated Posture

In Kundalini Yoga, there are many different ways you can sit. Some common basic postures include rock pose, celibate pose and easy pose. 

Daily Practice: Sadhana

Sadhana is your daily practice. Kundalini has a wealth of mantras, kriyas and meditations that you can incorporate into your day to day routine. That is one of the great things about this practice--you choose the sets that you like or that challenge you that have a positive impact on you and work for your body.

Vision Treasure of the Institute Revealed

Look at the world right now. If you’re not making your spiritual practice a priority, then you are not going to be able to have a wonderful experience on the planet. This is not brain science. If you’re not making spirit a priority, the commotional shallow quagmire of these times will consume you. It will feel very depressing. Consider the number of hours it takes you in the mirror every morning obsessing about how you look and trying to cover up weaknesses. What do you have left, energy wise?
We all must face the time. Tomorrow comes on all of us. So, if you’re not putting energy and time into the development, cultivation, and intimacy of your own spirit then time will turn you down. The time you give to your spirit is in direct proportion to your ability to obtain and maintain your success in the pressure of these times. You can spend some time every day (like 2.5 hours of Long Ek Ong Kar) vibrating your infinite power. You can.

The good news about not knowing how to do something is that you don’t know what you don’t know. It’s a wonderful spot to be in because you have no idea what it’s actually going to take create it. “May it cost you not less than everything” as TS Elliott said. May you be so fortunate as to give everything to your creation - fully engaged and participating.
You can’t bargain with your destiny. “I’ll do a little of it but I’m really comfortable over here doing this.” This - being your fate which may be more comfortable but way less enjoyable. In the unconscious mind that which cannot be individuated is your fate. Destiny is no longer bargaining with your energy, intelligence, and creativity to step into your greatest fulfillment. The more you participate the more you are going to receive the great treasure of your destiny. It’s quite wonderful to not know what is going to be required of you. You have the beginner’s mind. It is the freshness of your own innocence that allows you to fully show up. Destiny totally opens for you.
When the pressure is on, start. Then the pressure will be off.
You take the E from Ego and the D from God and what do you have? GO GO.

Sound is a way to create a deeper neural pathway into yourself. If you are an experienced kundalini practitioner, this class offers a great reminder about having a beginner’s mind. Use sound with a new and fresh perspective. Tap into it and hunt for a new discovery of your greatest intuitive clarity. It is the most valuable thing that you have. Give yourself a no regret energetic experience when it comes to decision making. Tell yourself: I make great decisions. Don’t lose energy from any doubt or questioning. Cultivate a Fresh Mind

Sound is a way that you can change consciousness. Come into this class with a fresh beginner’s mind and see what opens up for you. A fresh mind gives you youth and creativity. It allows you to see things differently. Develop this perspective with the kundalini yoga in this class. Being a yogi means that when you put yourself into alternate postures you put yourself into alternate realities. Put yourself in a fresh perspective. That is the goal of your yogic practice. Why? Because suffering is when your mind doesn’t move. When your mind does not have the agility and flexibility to move through the 84 facets of the mind. These are 84 different rooms with different views!

Develop the agility, strength, and breath required to maneuver through these 84 perspectives. That way you can see anything in a whole new way. You never need to suffer. Create a whole other reality right now. That is the fresh mind which is a spiritual practice. Receive a simple teaching on the 3 mental facets; the positive, negative, and neutral mind, and how they work.

Don’t take anything personally. Try it. Develop the capacity of mind, body, and spirit to actually have an experience of love. See the beauty of the quagmire of the human condition and have the personal power to love them anyway. This is precognitive. It is an experience.

Being Nice to Yourself and Others

Command over The Chakras

Adjust your centers of interconnection and communication. Create freshness in your practice with a beginner’s mind. Real communication and the ability to listen in an art. It starts with yourself. What words are you saying? You can develop your inter-communication through a balanced chakra system. Experience the power and vitality of well-lubricated chakra gears. Gain command of your 10 bodies, 3 Gunas, and 5 tattvas using this practice. When you have balance throughout then your intercommunication can be honest. You are real. You have enough energy to hold polarity like being direct and subtle simultaneously. Cultivate this ability in this class. Get right and you can communicate with anyone.

Gossiping actually moves energy. It can be done in a healthy way and humans need it, especially women. Make progress in the caliber of your sound current, and eye movement.

Key spiritual teaching - stop apologizing for your existence. Your childhood trauma somehow gave you the idea that you should be sorry for who you are in every way. This is the yoga of awareness so you can now get a hold of these habits and command your communication through your chakras.

Understanding Why

Opening up to Warrior's Mind

Tune in for teaching on Lion’s Gate and the energy of eclipse season. Use the teachings and yoga in this class to tap into ruthless compassion for your own personal progress. Shed the identity of, “I’m a good person.” Cut through self-deception of what you think that is supposed to look like. A beginner’s mind is always a great place to be. Remove the layers of what you’ve been told being good is supposed to look like. It is then that you can be ruthlessly compassionate with yourself and your practice. When you don’t think you know anything, you can be a warrior and cut through self-deception.

The myth is that if you do some meditation thousands of times without the intention of ruthlessly going after whatever the meditation allows, then you will still experience life through the old thought form. A beginner can do the meditation once and experience a huge quantum leap.

If you can’t cut through your self-deception you cannot progress. Clear the clouds that have gathered in your subconscious mind so that you can see the sun. A sophisticated practitioner knows when they are lying to themselves. The power of the meditative mind is a physical conduit. Learn to physically channel the energy of the cosmos and use it to get more prosperous.
