This Week in Astrology: New Moon Solar Eclipse

 

Humans celebrate light and love this week. In the skies overhead, the Sun and Moon conjoin Christmas night (PST; 12.26 for many) in Capricorn in an Annular Solar Eclipse, also known as a “Ring of Fire” Eclipse, with the Moon positioned further from the Earth, blocking less of the Sun.

This Eclipse is one of a series on the Cancer/Capricorn axis, in a cycle that began in 2018, and will continue until mid-2020 (Lunar Eclipse coming in January). Cancer/Cap highlights the dualities of where we’ve come from and where we’re going, mother/father, childhood/adulthood, feminine/masculine, intuition/responsibility. We may also see it in the political arena, and in the confrontation between mankind and Mother Earth.

The Eclipse’s square to Chiron triggers our traumas in this area to be sure we’re paying attention. A trine to Uranus yearns to shake things up, while the Cap stellium works to stabilize. Vesta (turning Direct this week) in trine brings our spirit in to support and purpose the work we’re doing.

We last saw the Cancer/Cap Eclipse cycle between 2009 & 2011, so see if you can make connections between then and now. Eclipses are opportunities to see things anew. Look to your responsibilities, power, career and work/home balance. And consider the benefits of temporary blockages and how they invite you to find a new way ‘round. The Sun advances from its Eclipse to conjoin Jupiter on the 27th. It’s a day of good luck and fortunate opportunities, especially in business. Make the most of it!
