In our solar system, Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. It is quick and as the planetary ruler of Gemini, it represents our communications, our thinking state, and our ability to name and classify objects and information. As the planetary ruler of Virgo, Mercury dives even deeper towards introspection and analysis, perfection, self-improvement, discernment and guilt.
Three times each year, Mercury turns retrograde for about three weeks, plus the shadow periods before and after extend the retrograde time frame to two months. That means that half the year, Mercury is slowed down and commands us to turn our attention inward. Popular culture assumes Mercury retrogrades will disrupt tech, travel, communications, contracts, and basically drive everyone batty. And yes, this indeed happens! But go beyond to see that Mercury just wants attention.
Mercury is retrograde in Virgo and Libra from September 9 to October 1, 2022 with its shadow and slowdown starting late August and extending to mid-October.
